FUME EXTRACTION SYSTEM FOR DASH CAR WASH MANUFACTURER
Dash is a popular car wash brand in Sri Lanka manufactured by a company known as Multichemi International (Pvt) Ltd.
For the car wash manufacturing process chemicals as well as fragrances are mixed together. During this process a strong odor is released due to which workers found it difficult to work in the area. FEPL was invited to offer a solution.
When studying the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) of the chemicals and fragrances FEPL realized that vapor density of these substances were higher than that of air and hence tends to flow downwards. FEPL proposed to do this operation in a special enclosed area (i.e. similar to a paint booth). The fan was designed to extract all fumes in the enclosed area and installed egg crate grills on top of the enclosed area to bring fresh air into the cubicle so that it goes across the operator and in to the fan. A chimney was installed and the height was kept 10 ft. above the roof level to release the fumes.
Ideally a fume should not be released into the environment. However, local companies do not have the required budgetary provisions to install activated carbon filters for these projects and also the CEA (Central Environment Authority) of Sri Lanka allows this.
The project was a great success as fume inside the area was being extracted continuously and workers did not feel the fumes coming towards them anymore.
