Toluene is being used as a bonding agent in the track tyre manufacturing process. Toluene is a solvent and is an aromatic hydrocarbon. It has a strong as well as an irritating odor. During the application process workers find it very difficult to work in this area due to the strong odor. FEPL was invited to offer a solution for the problem.
When FEPL studied about Toluene they realized that the vapor density of Toluene is higher than that of air and hence tends to flow downwards. In this case it is not practical to offer a canopy on top of the application area and rather it should come below the point of application. Hence an inverted canopy was proposed. The canopy was connected via a duct to the fan taking the fume out of a chimney that is 10 ft. above from the roof level. FEPL did propose proper activated carbon deep bed filters to arrest the odor so that clean air leaves the building however Loadstar did not have required budgets to execute this. Instead the fan was installed compensating for the filter so that the same fan can be used if a decision is made to incorporate the filter in future.
